Robert Alan Duncan Jr.

January 11, 1976 — February 2, 2024

Kalispell, Montana

Robert wasn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but he was a quadruple shot of espresso in shock and awe to most he met. He loved boats, the ocean, cranes, cats, and his partner Darby, not necessarily in that order.

Robert did his best to keep the tobacco industry in business, but gave up booze in 2020, much to the chagrin of the Jagermeister company. His many vices seemed predestined to get him, so it was quite a shock when a rogue mole turned metastatic melanoma did him in just 26 days after his diagnosis.

Robert’s presence generally annoyed or enthralled with little room between, and it’s a shame he wasn’t able to see the enormous outpouring of love he’s received since his passing. His loyal partner and best friend, Darby Bartlett, adored his quirky sense of humor and unique view on life and the world as they adventured to 40 countries together. His siblings Tanya and Darrin did their best to be positive influences on their animated and sometimes offensive little brother.

Robert lived life in his way, sharing his hilarious wit and sensitive heart with those he encountered. The absence he leaves is widely felt in Montana, Oregon, California, England, the Netherlands, Poland, Panama, and Mexico. He lived and loved more boldly and fiercely in his short 48 years than most people could ever fathom.

Robert is survived by his mother, Dianna Duncan; sister Tanya Andersson, wife Shauna and nephew Colin; brother Darrin Andersson and wife Dawn; partner Darby Bartlett and her loving family; and cats Addie, Maya, and his special girl Don Gato.

If he had just one more day, Robert would remind you that life is short. Take the trip, smoke the joint, love deeply, and do what you want to do. After all, this isn’t a dress rehearsal.

Celebrations of Robert’s life will be announced at a later date and will take place in Montana, Oregon, and anywhere else his friends meet up across the globe.
