Bob Zavadil, 95, passed away peacefully on Aug. 21, 2025, at Buffalo Hill Terraces Memory Care, surrounded by his loving family. Bob was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Martha (née Nouss), with whom he shared 62 years. He was also preceded by his daughter, Mary Claire Simkin, his son, Mark Zavadil, and his brother, Denis Zavadil.

His memory is cherished by his daughter, Anne Zavadil; sons, Dan Zavadil, Kevin Zavadil (Amanda Cisco), and Matt Zavadil; son-in-law, Ron Simkin; grandchildren, Chanda Murphy (Joe), Michelle Simkin (Max Dynerman), Jennifer Simkin (Damien Tatum), and Curtis Zavadil (Leah); as well as great-grandchildren, Mia Murphy, Anthea Tatum, and twins, Levi and Liam Zavadil.

Bob was born on March 18, 1930, in St Louis, Missouri. He attended St Louis University, where he pursued studies that would lay the foundation for his future career in seismology. Following graduation, Bob served in the US Army, assigned to the US Polar Transportation Command on the Greenland Ice Cap for two years. His professional journey took him to Gulf Oil Corporation, where he worked for twelve years, and then to the Air Force Technical Applications Center. Bob dedicated twenty-six years there, monitoring the Nuclear Test Ban Treaty between the United States and Russia during the Cold War.

A man of many passions, Bob was especially devoted to photography and hiking. His love for national parks and wilderness areas was evident, and he took great joy in introducing these wonders to his children. For the past thirty years, Bob was an active member of the Over the Hill Gang, spending time hiking and capturing the beauty of Glacier National Park through his lens.
