Rodney William Kane

With profound sadness, we share that Heaven has received a mighty warrior. Rodney William Kane passed peacefully into the presence of his Lord and Saviour surrounded by his wife and children after a brief and sudden illness in Kalispell, Montana.

Left to treasure his memory are his devoted and cherished wife, Diana Kane; best furry friend, Ren; daughters, Beverly (Justin) McCool, Kimberly (Tate) Paladino, Brittany (Earl) Magiba, Brooke (Mike) Suzewitz; son, Kevin (Taryn) Suzewitz; grandchildren Madelyn, Kadence, Evan, Jett, Kade, Lochlyn, Harrison, Reeve, Sullivan, McClane, and Maverick; brother, Barry (Gail) Kane; sister, Jaynie (Mike) Tessier; nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, countless friends and family in Christ.

Rod is predeceased by his parents, Jean (Smart) and Brian Kane, and grandchild, Enoch Esther.

Rod was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and grew up in St. Albert, Alberta, just outside of Edmonton. He was active and hardworking from an early age, playing soccer, hockey, curling, skiing, and beginning work at 14 years old to save up for his first motorcycle.

Rod held many jobs throughout his youth, including caretaker at an ice rink, waterpark attendant, and mechanic at the local Esso before attending the University of Alberta, where he earned his Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. Rod spent 36-and-a-half years working as a Senior Petroleum Engineer, beginning his career with Schlumberger and retiring from Aera Energy in June 2021.

Rod met the love of his life in 1999, Diana, and they blended their families in 2002. Rod valued time together and some of his favourite memories included taking everyone to Seal Beach to share a $5 pizza while watching the sunset, as well as family trips to the lake and Mexico.

Faith was an important part of Rod’s life. He was an active member of his church and went on many missions with his family, building houses in Mexico and mentoring and helping others in any way he could. Rod knew no strangers.

For 35 winters, Rod volunteered with Ski Patrol at Shirley Meadows/Alta Sierra Ski Hill, many of those years alongside his beloved Diana. He also spent a couple summers working as a whitewater rafting guide with Brittany. After retiring to Montana, Rod was elected as Trustee for the Board of Directors at Lincoln Electric Cooperative Inc. and was active in the HOA.

In his later years, Rod and Diana made visiting their children and grandkids a priority. They loved watching the grandkids pursue their different hobbies and were always ready to lend a hand around everyone’s homes. Rod and Diana also created a little piece of paradise in Montana where their family could come together and make memories—hours filled with laughter to the point of tears, playing games, telling stories, and simply enjoying being together. It has become a special place where everyone could slow down, reconnect, and enjoy the gift of time.

The grandkids especially love coming to spend time with Papa at the cabin and at the lake - playing outside, swimming, paddle boarding, and riding the jetskis.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff who cared for Rod at Logan Health.
