David Hofstad

Dave Hofstad, “A Child of the King,” passed into heaven on Nov. 21, 2019, at the age of 66. God called him home after bravely coping with pancreatic cancer.

Dave was born in Seattle on Nov. 24, 1952. He graduated from Woodway High School in 1972, attended Everett Community College and Washington State University before taking on the job in Arlington, Washington, of managing a liquid egg processing plant. Dave met his future wife Cary and they married a short six months later and have had one adventure after the other both in business and travel for the past 43-plus years.Dave learned home building from the ground up with a hands-on builder and then went on to be a residential superintendent for the largest builder at the time in Wash-ington. He and a partner started Northland Homes and developed and built many homes, from Woodinville to Arlington. Cary convinced Dave to relocate to Kalispell in 1995 where they had been skiing for the previous 12 years. Dave loved being a “farmer” on their property, cutting hay. He had worked two summers in high school on a dairy farm in Colville, Washington, and often said that is where he learned how to work hard. Dave transferred his building company, Hilzac Corp., to Kalispell and slowly started building hands on, one house at a time. He later built an entire subdivision of 130 homes.

Dave’s joy in life was to spend time with his kids and grandkids, as well as in his shop making guitars and wood geared clocks. Dave loved God and served both at Easthaven and Calvary Chapel Flathead in assisting in building both new church buildings. Dave will be remembered as a very hard worker, never backing away from problem solving and manual labor, working hard to support his family and keep his kids in Christian schools.

Dave leaves behind his wife of 43 (44 next week) years Cary, son Zachary Hofstad (Kristine) of Lacey, Washington, daughter Hilary Anderson (Paul), and precious grandchildren, Benjamin, Gunnar and Claire, all of whom will follow him in God’s timing to heaven.
