Duane Ray

February 2, 1962 — August 29, 2022

Duane Floyd Ray,"Dewey", 60 of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho passed away of Covid in Logan Health, Kalispell, Montana on Aug. 29, 2022. Duane was born in Kalispell, Montana on Feb. 2, 1962. He was the fourth  and youngest child born to Virginia (Hilty) and Floyd Ray. He graduated from Cut Bank High School and attended the University of Montana.

While at the University of Montana Duane became a member of the Sigma Nu fraternity where he enjoyed the brotherhood of so many great friends. Duane was an avid Griz fan and watched or streamed football and basketball each season. While attending the U of M Dune met the love of his life and best friend Gail Sharkey. Duane married Gail, and together they had one child, Dylan Ray.

Duane worked as a retail manager until he became medically disabled by chronic kidney disease. His brother, Doug Ray saved his life by providing him with a perfect match kidney in January of 2008. In August of 2008 his medical team at UCSF provided Duane with a perfect match pancreas that cured his diabetes after 37 years. If you would like to save someone's life consider being an organ and tissue donor.

Duane's family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Brendan Mielke for his years of exceptional medical care for Duane. They would also like to thank the Kootenai Cancer Center where Duane was also fighting cancer. Duane is survived by his wife Gail, son Dylan (Coeurd'Alene, ID) sister Kathy Ray and Donna (Oakland, CA) brother Doug Ray (Cut Bank, MT), Ron Sharkey and Debbie (Missoula, MT) Carol Blodgett and Tim (Polson,MT) Rod Sharkey and Lisa (Missoula, MT) Lou Ann Sharkey( Missoula, MT) along with many nieces, nephews and dear friends whom he loved very much. Duane was predeceased in death by his Mother Virginia, Father Floyd, and sister Diane Taves

Memorial service will be held at Lake City Church 6000 N Ramsey Rd, Coeur d'Alene, ID 83815 on Oct. 22, 2022 at 1:00 pm.

Duane's ashes will be scattered next summer at his happy place on Flathead Lake.
